DNFing Books

This is one of the most discussed topics in the book realm. DNFing (Did Not Finish) a book reactions ranges from "oh my god, I would never do such a thing" to "done it several times." I'm on the "done it several times" portion of the spectrum. So why do I DNF books? Well, there are several reasons:

1. I dislike the main character so much that it brings me great pain reading the book. If I can't enjoy the book itself because the protagonist is very very annoying, I will chuck the book to the side and give it away later.
2. When. The. Book. Is. Choppy. As. Hell. I guess it's seen as a poetic form of writing but this doesn't fit with an entire book. It gets irritating trying to focus down on the story when. You. Write. Like. This. Every. Page.
3. Super slow stories. Taking thirty chapters (sarcasm) for Jane Doe to hop on a train to Narnia should be illegal.
4. I've heard this story before. Now, let me explain. Nothing is original nowadays, but what makes a book different is when the author puts a spin on an unoriginal idea. When an author doesn't even try and decides to copy and paste various book stories, that's boring.

Instead of struggling my way through a book that I don't like, I'd rather pick up another book and give that one a shot. Besides, forcing myself to read a book puts me in a reading slump for months and I prefer not to be in that position ever again.
